eic|ComfortHome has been involved in home energy solutions since 1984, when we were first known as Energy Information Center, Inc (EIC). Formed as a response to our nation's energy crises in the 1970s and early 80s, EIC took a closer look at how energy was used in residential homes and how to cost-effectively increase efficiency while improving comfort and building sustainability.

In those early years, EIC pioneered the adaptation of commercial testing to the residential market and began the first aggressive approach to developing protocols and equipment to evaluate the overall delivery efficiency of residential ductwork. Federally-funded research and actual test studies proved that our approach was the most cost-effective way to reduce energy usage and assure comfort.

ComfortHome® has since become a nationally-recognized leader in the development and implementation of programs and services focused on energy efficiency and environmental leadership. We have been recognized by many prestigious organizations, including:

  • U.S. Department of Energy—Under Secretary of Energy Outstanding Partner Award
  • U.S. Environmental Protection Agency—ENERGY STAR Partner Award (2005-2008)
  • U.S. Department of Energy—Solar Decathlon Evaluators Award
  • NAHB—Endorsement of Distinction to the ComfortHome Program (1991)
  • NAHB—Energy Value Housing Award (1997)
  • Pennsylvania Governor's Award—PA Energy Security Award
  • National Environmental Council—Environmental Achievement Award

eic|ComfortHome Founder and President, H. Edward Carr, has always taken a very pro-active approach to the utilization of diagnostic equipment to better evaluate energy efficiency opportunities and to verify the differential improvement achieved through various energy conservation measures.

Through the ComfortHome Program for new homes, we have now certified more than 120,000 homes nationwide. And through our work with utilities and government-funded programs, we have audited more than 12,000 homes and weatherized more than 10,000 single and multi-family homes.

Builders and property management firms rely on us to investigate, solve and fix energy problems before, during and after construction. Similarly, utility companies throughout the Mid-Atlantic trust us to provide their customers with independent, professional energy audits to find ways to save money and improve energy performance.
